PORTRAIT

HINGE

Like so many good ideas, portrait hinge started out life on scratched out in blue biro on the back of an envelope.

We wanted to create something that matched the profile of a shower, and maintained the functionality of the standard shower screen hinges that have been around for decades. Not only a better looking hinge, Portrait Hinge is stronger and more durable than traditional hinges.

Tried and tested

FIFTY THOUSAND CYCLES

One cycle is one open and one close. We've tested 50,000 - 5 times.

A family of 5 using the same shower every day of the year will cycle the door 1825 times.

50,000 cycles is over 27 years of daily use - far longer than most bathrooms last!

We have overloaded, overtightened and overworked our hinges - all to give you the best product we can.

Our hinge plates will not bend.

Other brands offering standard hinges usually set limits on how tight you can torque their hinges. After about 4 of 5 newton metres of torque, standard hinge plates will start to bend and cup, reducing the amount of grip they have on the glass. The more you tighten, the less grip they have.

In testing, portrait hinges have been torqued to over 12N·m with zero measurable plate bend.

MARK ATLEY

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Mark Atley has been in frameless glass since 2002. And has been staring at shower hinges that whole time. Why are they always short and wide? The shower is almost always tall and skinny, and these landscape oriented hinges really break the flow of the shower. Searching for a hinge that suited the shower were fruitless, So he decided to build his own.

I'd seen skinny hinges out of Europe before, but they were all horizontally oriented, and only opened one way. I liked the style of these, but I knew that the functionality of a door that only opened inwards wasn't good enough for the Aussie market. When I tried and failed to find a tall and skinny hinge, I just couldn't believe it hadn't been done before. After  years of development and testing, I'm proud to say that Portrait is the worlds thinnest and best looking shower hinge.
